It has been dry, bright, and very cold here today, we are forecast snow for Sunday

I decided to clear the paths round our little close, 4 houses and four old peoples bungalows. After a little while Herbie turns up with his snow shovel, and offers to give me a hand we was getting on very well , when all of a sudden Herbie went missing after a while he came out of this bungalow where an old lady of 80 years old lives smiling all over his face he said to her i will be over again tomorrow if we get a lot more snow tonight I don't know what tonic he got there but it could'nt have been bad if he's going back formore tomorrow.

Dear Codger, i think it was my big snow shovel that swung it, i don't think she was over impressed with your broken broom.

Did you manage to get a new one by the way?

No i did not get a new broom they don't sell them at supermarkets, what a suprise.

We had six inches here last night. (Why do the ruddy weather forecasters always talk about snow levels in centimetres? I can't visualise what 10 centimetres looks like !). I did clear some patches in the garden for the birds to feed. Some of them were flying down before it was barely light in the desperate search for food. We always have a large box of fatty oats and hulled sunflower seeds for them and they are gobbled up so thankfully. Our visiting fox didn't turn up for her supper last night - no footprints in the snow. Her food is still waiting under the camelia bush for her and by now it's frozen solid so if she comes tonight she'll have a hard job chewing her way through it. And more snow forecast. I think tomorrow it may be a case of pulling up the drawbridge and catching up on all those indoor jobs. Thank goodness for a well stocked freezer and storecupboard. None of the roads round here seem to be gritted. Think our local council has probably run out of money.

No did not get my cod and chips, they could not catch the fish the water was frozen,so ihad a nice fry up ,egg bacon mushrooms beans fried bread and black pudding,

You just can't beat this healthy eating, that's made me feel rather peckish now.

Morning Clive, did you manage to get your Dad to the, not so local hospital? If so, i hope all went well.

I know it probably wasn't funny at the time but, it did make me smile about your apple store dilemma.

Well I am pleased to say that my son got to work yesterday, the motorways were clear all the way so he was OK.

We collected our granddaughter from the next village 5 miles away yesterday morning and the roads were lethal, you can tell which council owns which roads as some were gritted and some were not

She wanted to go and sledge but unfortunatley because of this blessed head cold I did not feel up to it, hopefully we can go today as we still have plenty of snow, it has been down to -6.7 degrees C in our garden this morning. (19.9 deg F) its -5.5 deg C at the moment.

My OH went to visit his mother yesterday and she lives in a village where there are two roads in to it and they are both steep hills. Not been gritted so he rang the Council to complain as she is 76 and has already broken her leg last year falling and was frightened of going out.

The Council did not grit the road cause it wasn't on the list of priority roads. My OH told him that it was a school bus route and normal bus route how high a priority was that then. Suprise suprise he did not know about the buses so if we have enough people ring in and complain it can then be upgraded to being gritted. Who's logic runs the Council these days.

Oh and we are having really nice butchers sausages today for breakfast.

Dear Catherine, glad to read your Son had a safe journey.

Do wrap up warm if you are venturing out sledging, and make sure you let your Grandaughter have a go on the sledge.

We have the same problem at the posher end of the village where i live we have school transport and the village mini-bus come through, but they refuse to send the gritters through, and we also have a steep hill.

On the bright-side, the roads are more like when i was a boy, with the lack of traffic.

I must admit OH that we bought two sledges last year so we could all have a go.

There doesn't seem much traffic out there this morning even though it is the last shopping weekend before Christmas.

Looking at the sky it looks very leaden this morning which looks like more snow.

We cancelled Dads outing...we did feel guilty at chickening out of the trip because it was sunny with black roads at the time...but it was just not fit weather for him to be out.
Went up town to do the Saturday shop on a Friday....and found that it was actually worse getting about than we had thought...

About an inch more snow overnight and showing 25.3F...lovely bright sunny morning...

..now to open some birthday cards..and have another round of toast with Loganberry & Raspberry jam. ...then I can go play in the snow...cept these days I seem to prefer sitting here.

I would say you made the right decision not going to the Hospital Clive, it certainly was a bitterly cold day.

I have been and played in the snow...with snowplough and brush..as least as far as the garage and return....that's our garage..not the petrol pumps in the next viillage.

Meanwhile our local aviator hs just sped by in his Thruster 600 microlight....we might have lorries jacknifed blocking local roads...but Kevin the microlight can still get about
