You're a natural grock. Spooky though - it's Lyndon's 55th birthday on Sunday. I think he'd love to spend it fishing but instead he will be visiting his Mum who's in residential care - she's blind, has dementia and has a brain tumour. She was a PE teacher and a national hockey player. She won't know who he is, he'll wish she wasn't as she is. Good job we don't know what's before us.
Anyway - best wishes to you and your son on his birthday and Mother's Day. Have a great time and store away all those precious moments.

Grock, I've been seriously into most kinds of fishing all my life. I'd say the advice you've been given is sound. I'd be concerned that he needs to know at least the basic nylon knot for tying hook to cast. Maybe your local tackle shop would help with that.
As regards bait and techniques, a book on sea fishing for beginners would be worth getting hold of.If you want a list of good tackle sites on the web let me know. There are terrific bargains in rods, reels, lures, tackle, etc. to be had from the USA. Again, I know the best sites, AND the ropes. Good luck. I hope he gets a lot of fun out of his fishing.

Hi, Grock
Sorry for late post - probably too late. If your boy is only five I think he'll find sea fishing too difficult and tiring. With a short (5ft) rod and reel he could fish from a boat, but beach fishing needs a very long and fairly heavy rod you can cast out a long way with. Suggest you buy some freshwater coarse fishing tackle and find him a local pond, to begin with.

Grock, didn't realise your boy was only five- thought, for some reason, he was a teenager. I'd agree entirely with John.
