broad beans

Need to know the best time to plant?

dont think ive ever had broad beans much more than waist high, could be something to do with the fact that we are on top of a hill with about 4 inches of clay soil over layered limestone.

Also depends how tall you are - my waist is probably lower down than most!!! Our beans are more like shoulder high to me!!

No blackfly on my broad beans but lovage covered with them.

Hi Glallotments,
The reason why I grow the green seeded varieties is because somehow to me the skin white skinned varieties are always tough and the green not so much.
Years back my children didn't like them because of the skins so I used to cook them and then pop them from their skin then mash them with a little butter, salt and pepper and they relished them. I use to eat the discarded skins with my helping and a nice white sauce.
