WATER WATER NOT A DROP.........

Dear Compo, at one of the gardens i work at, they have two large ponds, one natural one and one man-made. Both these have dropped nearly a foot in the last ten days, i have put this down to the reasons you mentioned in your first post.

Hi everyone
I have also been expecting (and hoping for) rain too as the drop which has fallen had very little effect. The last few days have been - changeable mostly cold and grey with a very chilly wind which has persisted even when the sun appeared. The wind is drying everything out too.
Great to have got some gardening done - kept on going thinking must do this before it rains, then another task and then another (you know what its like can always find something to be done). So looking forward to the rain refeshing everything - but oh boo - not relishing the feeling of cabin fever being stuck in the house at this time of year (I don't like housework very much)

We had a heavy downpour last night, but not enough really. Ideally it could rain all day today, and all night, and clear up for the weekend. that would be nice!

Started with drizzle about 8.30am and then rain hammered down - sounded like a clog dance on the conservatory roof. Hope the beautiful peony won't end up flattened - it does have some support so hope its enough! Everything looks more vibrant already. We are blessed!

It's our village plant day tomorrow - Dorstone, Herefordshire, starting at 11 so I can absolutely guarantee that it will rain at least some of the time. It always does.

But if I can unload all the tomato plants I've grown for it I shall be able to turn around in the greenhouse which will be a new sensation.

And when the rain stops we can go back to waiting for a day that is mild and still enough to put the cover on the polytunnel.

Thanks OH for your confirmation re the pond problem, I think the wind is more of an evaporator of the water than the hot sun is, but whether or not the marginals act as a wick and the wind dries them and then causes them to wick up more water ........... I am not sure about........ but it is logical.

As regards to the rain we have had plenty here now, the pond and the water butts are full the plants are well watered.........but we now have four or five days of rain forecast more than we need, but hey ho thats the way it goes. I am going to attempt to plant out all the sweetcorn, courgettes etc this weekend, wellies and cagoule will be the order of the day......oh and plenty of tea .........

Hi all,
It's been raining on and off all day here as well. Absolutely chucking it down at the moment. I managed to get the courgettes planted out this morning, so at least they're being watered in

Since Compo started the complaints about lack of rain, it's rained most of the time here. Thank goodness I managed to use the last two fine days (and, for that matter, the first two in quite a while) last Monday and Tuesday to mow my three quarters of an acre of grass, which was well overdue.

Perhaps someone should start a thread complaining about how wet it is and we may get some fine weather for the start of summer

Ooooh, Alan, Alan, i saw the weather earlier and it looks as if, as the week progresses the weather is going to improve more and more.

It's OK, Old H, the bad tidings have already been borne here And it's rain on and off till at least Friday

Here too - we set off for the allotment in a sunny period yesterday and I just managed to pop straw round three strawberry plants before it started and tipped down for the rest of the day. It's been like that for a few days and no sign of improving this week. What was more yesterday was my birthday!!!
Anyway I am contenting myself with a bit of painting for a shed adornment (a plot number sign) - I know really sad but it was a challenge from my plot neighbour and also recovering some kitchen chairs to use in the shed. Not being pretentious but the foam was bursting out!!!

It rained here yesterday but today it has surpassed itself and chucked it down this afternoon in really heavy bursts, followed by sunshine then more cloudbursts! It's been really windy too. Ah well!
