I would think that 1/4 inch is fine Ron for the cabbage white and obviously it will keep birds off, provide shelter and warmth and a better growing environment.

Today I finished the cage (photo to follow later) in the end it was easy to stitch the netting together as it had eyelets and I tediously stitched two two metre widths together with polyprop orange line. No needle required. And it really does overlap well. Next job is to put some padding under the wooden frame corners as I fear some wear and tear on the netting will occur otherwise. I may try and use foam pipe insulator, any other ideas?
