We had another dark and wet day too, but, folks, at the moment there is a gorgeous red and orange sunset - "red sky at night, shepherd's delight"!
Roll on, tomorrow!

Well it rained itself out at last. Grass is knee-high, hedges haven't been cut, hens' feet are getting distinctly webby, but at least it's over, the worst August for a long time.

Now to look forward to better things in September

Dear Alan, the rain in September is a totally different rain to August rain, it's even wetter.

A lovely morning here (now I have to go to work), but I'm reliably informed that it won't last and the rain will be back later today

It was raining on and off here in l.pool yesterday,but it was roasting...(i was )maybe it was a hot flush
Anyway gave the plot a miss and went the Dock to see the Gustav Glintz (i know i av most prob got d name spelt wrong)in the tate.
Loved his pics,was a bit like being in Ikea ,
couldnt say much for the rest of the so called art!!!
Is it me or what! i canot understand a piece of canvas painted all blue,there was another one that i think someone ad knicked the picture,there was nothing in the frame Most probably...we are in Liverpool.
Anyone been? what do you think?

Last night's sunset wasn't wrong - it WAS sunny today, on and off.

But, after totting up my weather records for August, this was the result:
192mm rain and only four days during the whole of August without any precipitation.

We had a lovely morning and then from around 2pm it's been overcast, windy and throwing it down most of the time. I saw the news with the reporter in New Orleans getting soaked, then went to my plot and it felt much the same

Dear Chantal, you just need to get yourself a Jazz band now, and you will have New Orleans on your own allotments.

See you had a very dry August - 311 mms of rain here and September is continuing in the same vein, though that strange orb in the sky has put in a few appearances. But lawns unmown for more than 6 weeks.

Wow did it rain last night (and afternoon and evening)!

I leave 5 small buckets on the patio to collect rainwater which I filter for Rosie to drink (she won't touch tap water). This morning I filled THREE 1.5 litre bottles

My sunken garden (paved section) was under an inch of water at 7am too. It drained away by 8am once the rain had stopped, but it takes a fair bit of precipitation for it to get that deep.

Having spent an hour in the rain picking veg last night, I am so hoping for a dry evening today

You are right, Colin, our August wasn't unusually wet (we only had two really pouring days) but it was mostly heavily overcast and drizzly with only four days without any precipitation. That's what made it so depressing here.

It's coming down in torrents here, my toes are starting to web, my poor chickens are spending their days in one of my greenhouses scratching around between the tomato plants (which will probably get blight because the door's open), the forecast is for even more rain and I've just about had as much as I can take.

For two pins I'd emigrate and I've never had that thought in my life before.

Monika must have had some sunshine yesterday. Went to Colne in the pouring rain to get some new dog walking / gardening boots as I am fed up with wet feet from my leaking ones. Surprised by sunshine and a heady 16.5C when we came out of the shop but raining and 10.5C by the time we got home.
