Thanks for that, Wigbag. I went to a horticultural supplier today and got some fairly rigid but thin mesh for a very good price. We plan to staple it onto the timber structure so hopefully there won't be any lying about for wildlife to get caught up in.

Oi you lot, keep all this for General Chatter (slapped wrists all round :lol: )!

Pongeroon, in answer to your question, I used the green netting one year and it stunted the cabbages as it was too dark.

I now use enviromesh which keeps out everything. I buy this from a wonderful and helpful company called www.gardening-naturally.com who also supply cages (I make my own).

One tip, if you want to keep out the cabbage whitefly, make sure you don't pull the mesh tight, leave it loose.
