Thanks Primrose. Actually most people grow Mangels for animal fodder (sheep love them). In my case, I was taught to make wine with them by my father in law.
Personally I find the cooked vegetable pretty uninspiring. However the wine it's possible to produce is another thing - aromatic and more'ish!
