I tried an online translation of that next bit of the text, and it came out like this:

who drinks eighty jars of biere as greis only in grube sinks

Sorry Grock, forgot to tell you that my mother agrees more or less with Vivien's translation. These beer steins tend to use old german and strange sayings so a literal translation will be rubbish. Vivien's translation makes sense.

I can't promise anything close to an exact translation, but it's roughly 'who drinks beer for 80 years, shake his hand and greet him before he falls to the floor'. Very roughly! As a hint, if a letter looks like a capital B with a tail (a greek beta), that's the german version of a double s, i.e. ss. Confusing, huh!
