Re pacemakers
When I was working I once decided I`d monitor my level of exercise by wearing a step-counter thingy. The kids in my class were fascinated and told everybody that Mrs H was wearing a `pacemaker`. Caused a bit of a stir until colleagues cottoned on.
I remember the kids tried to work out ways I could cheat - (modern youth eh?) - and decided that I could fool the counter by energetically jumping on the spot. Oh yeah! That`d show it eh? :D

Fascinating bits of kit, your right elderflower, my symptoms were quite instant, 24 hours before going into hospital my pulse dropped to 40 at rest and 50 on exercise (ok for a marathon runner or other super athlete). It seems that one of my own natural pacemakers had broke (a cell in the heart) and I was on stanby mode, a slow strong heartbeat which long term is not good for the heart muscle and can give a heart attack, so the pacemaker was fitted a few days later whilst I was awake (yikes). I did notice straight away a steady regular and quiet heart beat and since then I have got a lot fitter and lost weight easily. So I guess my metabolism has improved too. Thank God for medical science, it's great being bionic!!

Don't be bashful Retropants, just dive in and say what you like. OH always does

I like lots of things Chantal, especially chocolate cake.!

Get Well soon to everyone who is feeling a little below par at the moment! As for being bashful, I sometimes also spend so long deciding what I'm going to type, that I usually think it probably isn't worth the bother, or a bit silly, so I give up! :?

I haven't been about much as I'm back and forth to Derbyshire to be with my brother Don. He's spent much of the last 5 weeks in Weston Park Cancer Unit in Sheffield, but they haven't been able to get on top of his pain. They moved him to the Hospice in Chesterfield yesterday, so I'm hoping they will be able to do something for him.

Goodness knows what he's made of - he's full of diamorphine, fentamyl, ketamine and rohypnol, on top of a whole pile of other medication and he's still getting breakthrough pain.

His ability to manage is pretty amazing - he went out for an hour's walk last Saturday because he was worried about getting lazy?!

Dear Tigger, i'm so sorry to hear your news, it must be so hard for you and your family at the present.
Your Brother really does sound one in a million, how brave he must be.

Reading these stories of ill health just goes to remind me why we should all make the most of every single day.

When ever it comes to my last days, i hope i'm brave enough to be my silly self, if not for me at least to make it easier for everyone around me.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

I'd guessed that's where you were Tigger, I hope things soon improve for all of you.

As for you OH, your end could be sooner than you think with some of the things you say on here.
