Hmm, now there's a thought. I think Steve Ott should pop round to Milton Bryan and interview OH next. There could be a centre page spread of him and his window box

Hello Chantal
I had noticed another forum member in Tastes of Britain. How does he manage to keep that plot of his sooooo tidy?
Forum members are popping up everywhere - even I've got a few lines on page 46!

Now my magazine has finally arrived and I'm back from Tiscali dialup not working for nearly 24 hours I can see what you are all on about.
Having watched the Money Programme about innovation I should obviously have registered my carrot cage design before I published it!

Geoff, it was you! I searched all over the forum to try and find who'd put the photos and design on here and failed dismally; I also thought it was a female.
They work very well on my cabbages (and carrots) and my plot neighbour has now made some too. I'm making one for Seedling for Christmas and lots of the others on our site have commented on them.
Thank you

Hi Geoff,
Your frame is very similar to mine which is made of roofing slats purchased from the local timber yard and are Tanalised. Because my anti White Fly netting is 1 metre wide I made mine up into one metre frames and are all interchangeable and are screwed together
like yours. I also made some half a meter wide and this is for high growing Brassicas such as sprouts and Purple Sprouting Broccoli and these are simply added to the top by screwing them on as an extension. The half metre ones are also used for Carrots. My frames are made with very simple half joints. I have an intermediate upright in the centre of the longer frames again made with simple half joints. Once erected mine are secured to the ground with 2"x2" stakes driven deep into the bed every 2 metres and then again screwed to the frame.
I always make sure that on slightly uneven ground that the soil is well covering the bottom stile. I feel this also keeps some varieties of slugs away from the crop. I still use slug pellets inside the frame as I suffer with Keeled Slugs that come out of the soil. I feel that this is a very good example of Pragmatic Gardening.
JB.
