Hi Primrose, I suspect they use extra strong glue because if you can get the label off you can use it for your own pickles. If you make your own pickles then you won't buy their pickles.

Chantal, I'm sure you're right. I eventually got the label off but not even a can of sticky label remover will remove the adhesive. However, I've now found another use for the jar. I've got it on my kitchen window sill beside a pot of basil where it's serving as an "yellow sticky" substitute to trap whitefly. Am pretty sure that the "marketeers" never envisaged this alternative use!
