It's a shame your main aim is to burn rubbish rather than just heat the greenhouse.

Otherwise I'd have followed up Old H's suggestion near the top of these messages. Two options spring to mind:

a) People used to put large containers in the dead space under the greehouse staging. Painted black & filled with water, they absorbed heat during the day and emitted it at night, helping to keep the temperature much more even.

b) The "It's not easy being Green" group has done something similar, but using crushed glass (from waste bottles) in a pit under the greenhouse. They rigged up a solar powered fan to circulate air from the greenhouse through this, again storing & releasing heat. More details here:

Probably won't help keep your wheelie bin empty though. Guess you'll just have to generate less rubbish :( .

I might be a bit uncle Dick (thick) but surely this either a. a lot of waste or b. a lot of charcoal? But I might have missed something along the way. Is it not also a lot of time for a little heat? But on the other hand things like this fascinate me, and allotments are often the sites of much innovation so I look forward to hearing about progress in due course.
