Sad sight!

The frost sweeps on your site are odd. We experienced exactly the same thing. Also - people are't ready for late frosts. I remember beng warned of an impending frost by a neighbour, now no longer with us sadly, and I covered with everything I could lay my hands on. No frost that night but the next night it was wicked. There were black and limp leaves everywhere. Mine were mostly OK. But even then I noticed that some people's uncovered potatoes had survived, so it's the way it sweeps round the plot.
I have grown potatoes in pots this year and 6 of them look appalling. Something has eaten most of the leaves, leaving a few stems. Interestingly the other 20 tubs have been left untouched (oh dear, hope this isn't tempting fate) and what is more interesting is that the ones that got chomped were shop-bought potatoes that sprouted so I stuck them in the tubs. The rest are proper seed potatoes from a reputable supplier.
By the way, here in Nottingham we were promised rain last Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and so on and still have not had one teensy eensy spot. We are out there with the hosepipe every evening in an effort to keep the veg and some of the bedding plants alive. I will put some washing out this evening and maybe that will do the trick!
