yes. grass sods make one of the best loams. Take grass sods. idealy speaking this would be 2"/3" skimmed grass sods of earth. stack them one top of each other , grass side down.leave for 6 months or so. you will end up with excellent loamy soil which you can add to your bed later.

if your bed is full now, i would work away with sowing. you will find over the summer the bed will naturally sink by 2" to 4" inchs. The loamy soil would be ideal to add later to refill beds in say late Autumn. Of course if you plan to have any veg growing into the winter, it would make sense to grow such in one of the beds. this frees up other beds for adding loamy soil in Autumn.
