Nurse Tigger is sitting beside me as I type

She's just inspected the damaged hoof and there is now a "small" amount of something yucky appearing. The suggestion of a bucket of hot water and a needle is doing nothing for me right now. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp.
Tigger here - She's such a scaredy cat.

A little needle never hurt anyone....
I'm back. She's a sadistic person and no mistake! And no, I wasn't drinking before breakfast OH, I was standing on one leg. Badly.

A little note for myself.
Never have an accident if Tiggers around.

I've done the same thing and it was fine. Let it heal - but if it seems to be infected (swelling up and/or going yellow) go to your GP for antibiotics. The risk of tetanus is remote.

Chantal , Tigger and I have just sunk an amount of red wine over dinner so I think she should be ok now - doesnt alcohol clean wounds
If all else fails i`ll take her some lavender essential oil tomorrow (not sure shell like the taste though

)

Morning team, Tigger's still asleep so it's safe to talk
Seedling, I suspect the alcohol would only help the wound in my foot if I stuck my foot IN it, rather than imbibing as we were last night (good night though

).
Tigger stuck some zinc plaster over the dodgy area to try and draw it out and has said when she inspects this morning I may have to be stabbed with a needle.

I'm currently eyeing up my chicken shed as as suitable hiding place. Next door's shed may be even better.
My paw feels fine this morning so I'm hopeful I'll get away with it; however Weed, if you hear screaming followed by a heavy thud (me passing out) as you go through Rugby, you'll know what it is.

We are starting to make poor Tigger, look like the nurse from Hell, i'm quite sure she is nothing like this really.
This is starting to bring back memories of when a had a two inch metal splinter enter the top of my thumb and came out near the knukle joint.
After the initial shock i tried pulling it out with a pair of pliers, with no success, but i was amazed how far skin can stretch.
So i went to the hospital, and this fearsome looking Irish nurse came to help.
I said i had tried to pull it out, but was not successful.
With no anaesthetic she started pulling with all her strenght to pull it out, i must admit i had broke out into a cold sweat by now.
Finally after one last massive pull it came out, the reason it was stuck was because it had a barb like a fishing hook half way down it.
She did tell me i was very brave, but i musy admit i was to polite to tell her exactly what i was thinking about her right at that time.
I'm not trying to say Tigger reminds me of her though.

My OH was walking the dog and said hound emerged from the bushes on three legs, hobbled over to OH and sat down holding her front paw off the ground.
OH thinking, "Aha, doggie has trodden on a thorn" felt the paw and found a hard bit sticking out of the front of the big central pad.
So holding the paw with her left hand she pulled on the "thorn" with her right finger and thumb.
The dog just sat there as the two and a half inch long piece of wire / nail was withdrawn from her paw, when her paw was released off she bounced with not a backward glance or a limp.
Looking at the evidence that evening the wire had gone right the way under the main pad and up almost to the "thumb" pad (dew claw).
Time(s) before that it has been glass, once needing a general anesthetic to remove. Just luurve the little pillocks who smash bottles in public spaces.

Poor Chantal

Just keep an eye out for any redness or heat around the wound area. If you notice either, get to the Doc's quick as it's the first sign of the immune system fighting off infection. They may want to inject antibios close to the wound, but be a big brave girl - read on for horror story.
A women I work with had to rush her son to hospital after he scratched his eyelid on a twig one Sunday and his face swelled up within hours. He had caught some horrible aisian flesh killing bug and was tranferred around 4 different hospitials before a Chinese doctor recognised what it was and stepped in. The photos were unreal and he ended up having his eyelid amputated. Poor kid has had 1 plastic surgery op and is waiting for that to settle before his 2nd one.
A week later I was dusting the chooks with red mite powder as per the books i.e. turn them over on their backs on your knee and they just lie there quietly - yeah right

One of the little horrors caught me in the lip with a flailing foot and her claw neatly pierced my lower lip. Me scared - flipping right I was

Anyway my lip bled a bit then healed up with no problems, but I found red wine and chocolate totally necessary that evening.

Oooowww, this thread is getting more gruesome by the minute!
Anyway, the good news is I think I'm fine. Mercifully Tigger was in her car and leaving before I remembered she'd not done another inspection

so I checked myself and yeah, there's bit of a bruise but nothing else that I can see. Sorry to disappoint Peter but it really seems OK.
Tigger, by the way, should be renamed Digger as boy can she DIG

We've turned over around half my plot in about 5 hours (with help from Seedling too yesterday) and it looks so much better.
Thanks girls
