no i cant find the 'phone!
had a v tough day at school
an observation by new head and lit coord
a parent who didnt pick poorly child up til 230-4 hrs after we rang
a parent who forgot to collect her child!
a parent who questioned my abilites-grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
so i deserved a few lrg glasses

Not going to be chitting the potatoes this year as I have 75kg of seed potatoes to put in and after getting advice from the seed company they pointed out that farmers do not chit their potatoes and in a trial found that they do better when not chitted, will be sowing Aubergines & Chilli Peppers this week as well as digging and turf stripping.

I know I've come into this a bit late, but are you actually sowing carrots outside now? And all the cucumbers, melons etc, Tigger, is that in a heated greenhouse or unheated? I got a greenhouse last April. It's in a fairly exposed part of the garden and is unheated. I was wondering how early you could start sowing things. Any advice very welcome.

Carrots are in tubs in an unheated tunnel - just to give us some early ones.
The rest are in/going into heated propagators to start them off then into the inner sanctum of one tunnel which is heated.
I like to try and get the first lot started early, then I add to them regularly to keep the supply going as long as possible - tomatoes, peppers, chillies and cucumbers up until December.
Last year it all went wrong because I had a faulty bag of vermiculite which set like concrete on top of the seed trays. So no early plants were raised. Piglet, Chantal and Seedling baled me out though.

Just mowed the lawn,weeded the garden (the chickens were happy about that as they got the weeds to munch), planted out some hardy annuals in pots in the greenhouse, pruned the grapevine and going to a plant sale tomorrow.

Well, I WAS going to recoat my fences if only I could have got the damned lids off the tins of preserving stain! So I'll clear out my two mini ponds before the frogs start laying their frogspawn and continue pulling up the mountains of weeds which have grown in the recent mild weather. It's just so nice to be outdoors again..

Thanks, Tigger for your reply. I think I'll wait a bit for the tender stuff as I just have an unheated greenhouse but will try carrots. Any particular reason for putting carrots in pots and not straight in the ground?
