Well, even aside from the detrimental effects from carbon emissions, none of us will be able to emit a great deal more if the oil runs out... so it still pays to be green!

I'm not saying that we should not do our bit. I have been composting ever since I can remember, and have always used the bottle and paper bins. However, I would call that responsible, not green, which is a term that I do not associate with. My doing these things is not "to save the planet" but to cut down on the waste going to a land tip. We will run out of space unless we find some other way of disposing waste. We are a resourseful people, and I honestly think that by the time the oil runs out, something else will take its place. I might be disparaging about the green lobby, and a lot of what they say is sound sense. However, a lot of them are fanatics that would take us back to before the wheel. Sorry but the extreme greens are Ludites in my book.
Stand bye for flack!

Submariner
you had better come back in a boat then.
There is absolutely conclusive proof that the polar caps and glaciers are melting and at increasing speed.

i do the usual composting at home, have energy saving light bulbs, give my childrens old clothes to a friends little boy, water butts, have a wind up radio which i bought for the o.h from the c.a.t centre,we love it.i also got loads of water savers that you put in the systen from the c.a.t center.i took them into work and use them there.i also make everyone save there paper, which goes back to the council, stamps which saves the peat bogs, turn lights off and the shredded paper goes to my friend who has a guinea pig,who then passes it back to me for the plot

.i also make work save the cartrages from computers and photo copier and send thes off and make money for my scout group.i also make them reuse envolopes, they all groan at me

My efforts are a bit like you grock, and I am not far off the line that Submariner takes, but on an individual level we do need to do what we can.
All the technology to burn less fossil fuels exists, hydro, solar, wind, tide and all that. We can do our bit as individuals but the resonsibility lies with politicians, industry etc.
The technology for hydrogen fuel is on the way I read, I am sure we will save the planet, we might lose some species and some coast.........this is the way the earth has adapated in the past, the bigger threat is from the idiots in the third world with nuclear bombs, that is true global warming....
However, if we all do our little bit it will help(we are sat here in front of the woodburner) and my eleven year old son is in his room with thick socks and a low energy light bulb!!
I am against the extreme green reactionaries, in my opinion they need to get a life and a job!!
