I got up at 6am and it was 70C and although it's totally overcast there's no sign of rain. The night time was choking hot so sleep wasn't easy. The humidity has risen now and it feels horrible. I can't decide whether to go to the plot and do some watering, or wait to see if it rains; and if it does rain, will it rain enough? One thing I do know, if it rains, I'm going out in it!

Just a tiny smattering of rain here, a little way down the road from you Chantal. Very depressing. We've had no serious rain for 7/8 weeks now. It doesn't look like rain either. More watering today then!

Had a good downpour here in Leamington Spa last night. Along with a few of nature's own fireworks. Off to the lottie now in case it gets hotter later, but we are predicted more downpours later ....

Was woken by the sound of rain just after midnight, roused the other half and dashed out in my nighty to put the tonneau on the car to prevent soggy seats. Just got the last popper popped - and the rain stopped! Grrrr

I gave in and watered everything. Seedling and I spent from 7.30am until 11am watering all our plots and filling up all the water butts for later. We're sopping wet, dirty and tired but as the sun is now shining and there's no sign of rain, it's a job well done.

Chantal, you and Seedling must water your plants in a slighty different way to me.
When i've finished watering i'm dry, clean and feel totally invigorated.
It is a nice feeling to get a good job completed though.
I think you deserve a nice cool drink of your choice.

How does anyone stay clean when they water? I look like someone on the 'before' part of the ad for washing powder.

I was doing quite well as I used my wheelbarrow with a large container (25L) two 5L cans and a 10L can, making a total of 45L per run. I was filling water butts from one side and Seedling was using the water from the other side. Talk about the Labours of Hercules The problem is that around the stand pipe gets very muddy and we had to stand in it. A lot. Also, I had to heave the cans up to my chest ( ) height to heave the water over the fence into the water butts. On the occasions that I dropped a 25L can of water into a nearly full water butt, the tidal wave that hit me was bloody impressive. I can't say I felt invigorated; more like knackered! Especially after over 3 hours of this.

However, the drink of my choice is icy cold and going down nicely thank you OH. Cheers.

I wish i had been there to watch, maybe not, i suddenly remember what happened a the last wet tee shirt competition i was at.

Nope, no boob tube today OH,sorry, but I did a nice line in a wet polo shirt and shorts. As for my feet, my flip flops neither flipped nor flopped, just squelched.

woke to rain this morning - all 6 drops of it! Overcast skies though so got some gardening done. Managed to get a pen top stuck down my plaster, but fortunately got it out.Where's these thunderstorms Piglet?

the remnants of hurricane gordon are bearing down on the west coast of britain and ireland as i speak,he has lost a lot of strength but could still be lively.further out to the west is hurrican helene which should reach us the middle of next week.need to keep a close eye on her as she's packing a lot more energy
