Thanks for that, Johnboy, but if people want to take the slime off who am I to stop them.
I don't think I really want to start one on which way up is best as I am not selling tweezers or magnifying glasses

at breakfast this morning i gave our two primary aged children a lecture on not constantly trying to wind each other up and not rising to it every time the other one tried it on. :D
guess id better put my wooden spoon away and go and earn a crust

I'm no expert on the tomato seeds, but following a Bob Flowerdew recommendation, I have started taking cuttings off my tomato plants in the autumn. (Simple cuttings dipped in rooting hormone.) I find I lose about half the starts, so overdo it...but I can overwinter a lot of them and have nice, mature plants to go out in the spring as soon as the soil is warm enough. (Though I did find I had to take another set of cuttings as they grew too big...)
