The photos seem to have gone awol but I seem to recall that it did look like a JAP (J A Prestwich) engine.

Sorry gents, the photos went AWOL because I had to change them over in my photobucket albums so that I could make the album with me wood bits in into a public jobbie and make the others private..

The engine is a Jap 80cc. Thank you Reiver for the contact. I will see if I can contact Patrick after the Easter hol.

I have never dealt with them so have no knowledge of costs etc...but it might be worth an e-mail giving as much info of machine and engine type that you have...I do note that it is JAP engines that feature on the photo window on the page..there is a scrolling device, albeit small and hard to see, on the photo window..

I just bought a Shay, rotogardener and got a little qurious about it's history.

After googling for a while this thread is the only thing I actually find with anyone discussing "rotogardener" and I just had to be a member to be able to send you a comment.

I added three images and hope someone can give me a hint in the right direction were to find any further information about this great piece of machine.

The only information I have is what is written on the machine:
Shay Rotogardener 125 Four Stroke
I'm looking for any links or information about the manufacturer.

I guess 125 stands for Cubic Centimeters but not sure about it.
The ammount of horse power would be interesting too.

I like the exra wide set of "knives".
The reason why I bought it is that we are about to fix our lawn.
It is strong as an ox and is eating my lawn like it was butter.

Thank you for posting the photos of your Shay 125.....I had not seen the 125 model before so it was very interesting to see them.
I had only seen the older 2 stroke Rotogardeners before...

The engine looks like it could be an Aspera or perhaps another brand name from the Tecumseh lineage.?? (Kirby Lawson??)
Aspera were licence built engines later sold as Tecnamotor and more recentlyTecumseh in Europe...
Perhaps it could be about 3hp ??

A reference book I have "Seventy years of Garden Machinery" by Brian Bell http://www.oldpond.com/acatalog/seventy ... inery.html lists the 125 as being from the early 1960s...and I suspect it may be the last model of the Shay brand of machinery.??
The manufacturer was J. E. Shay of Basingstoke, England.
