I'm ok for seeds I think four box full's is enough

I planted four in separate pots all have germinated I'm only going to plant one ,I have had a talk to them and told them the largest will survive the other three will be for the compost bin

Bet the poor little mites were shivering in their pots from fear of an unknown future, or lack of it.

I grew a very nice stray pumpkin, or rather it grew itself in one of my compost bins last year. When I saw it I thought I'd see what it turned into and left the lid off the bin. It had the protection of the sides of the bin and ample food and produced four very tasty medium sized pumpkins. Have I made you feel cruel now Robo?

Not one bit plumpudding cruelty is all part of gardening killing slugs or crushing snails springs to mind

And eating the plants little babies too, Robo....

I'm afraid I'm a bit of a softie. I always apologise when I squash things and very often take the bucketful of slugs and snails to the end of the road and set them free down a wooded banking.

Well my self sown idea has not worked - not one up despite the rain & warmth! I think I've got a couple of seeds left so will throw them in & see but doubt my marrow will be in the running for the biggest!

The talking too I gave them is working the one that was just showing is now the largest

Thought you might like to see my effort so far in the giant marrow comp. Well actually this is my second attempt as Mervin as I have called him ended up being harvested accidentally and went in to a rather nice courgette, lime and coriander side dish! This is Mervin 2 and he is about 10in long as I write. The bad news is he has the first signs of mildew

That made me smile ! Alas I didn't sow any marrow seeds. My packet disappeared in a seed swap so any marrows I produce will be "ACCIDENTALS" which have been caught lurking undetected under a giant plant leaf which seems to happen at least once every season. MERVYN 2 is obviously a Spotted Dick variety. Didn't somebody tell him that Breton Stripes are all the rage this summer?
