Support for Heroes, not to be confused with Help for Heroes, often seen in shopping centres with table trying to sell raffle tickets to win a car.
I once asked how much of the ticket price was used for charitable purposes supporting service personnel, was told approximately 20%

Declined buying any tickets

Ah, that explains things. When I first read that post I could have sworn the name of the charity was wrong. Now I understand there are two very similar names and it seems disingenuous to me that anybody would have set up the second charity not realising the potential for confusion. I think I will just steer well clear and give my money to the Royal British Legion. I wonder how many innocent donors have given money to Support for Heroes without realising it!s not the same charity they thought it was.

Hi Pa Snip,
Your posting not only fills me with horror it makes me more than furious. What I would like to say would get me banned however well intended.
I only ever donate to The Royal Bitish Legion and then they too have their expenses but that is to be expected but you are at least assured that as much as is possible will go to British ex-servicemen and especially their families. The British Legion do the most wonderful things especially for bereaved families.
When I joined the RAF as an apprentice my first weeks wage was half a crown (12.5p for the youngsters) for the first year. That was such a long time ago. Offer a child today 12.5p and they would think you needed it more than they do!
