Ah! But Pa Snip we grow them differently!
They go in real soil with differing organisms which we actively encourage, no drip feeding & mollycodling our babies, hence the flavor difference!
There is supermarket & Supermarket the next Generation! (or not sometimes but we do like a challenge & saving a few pennies).

Shallot man, I store them in paper hen food sacks in a cool cellar, but it isn't cold enough to keep them dormant until spring. I believe the commercial suppliers keep them at 10°.

Some years ago I sowed seed from a tomato, such is the apathy of some people to the marketing people that my neighbors at the time thought you had to buy plants and that those seeds would never produce anything.
That had been the only time I ever grew a decent crop of tomatoes, tasty and prolific they were though I did have a greenhouse at the time and lived in sheltered suburbia. (I jokingly refer to that period as have been living in sheltered accomodation compared to where I live now)
I had often wondered about garlic marketing, ok, most comes from Spain. But why? Garlic grows very well in this country and what about the garlic farm on the Isle of Weight ? Surely they only sell a small part of their crop as seed with the remainder going as a food source though perhaps from different establishments compared to supermarkets.

What about £3-25 for 8 tomato seeds, and you have the postage on top.

OK, who can find the most expensive packet of vegetable seeds, with the least amount of seeds in it.
So, Company name,
Price of the seeds,
Number of seeds in the packet.

OH beat me to it when ssking how many seeds there are in a winter squash of that size. That's extortionate. And how many seeds in a tomato, even an F1 variety. What are they more expensive? By the time you've paid postage and packing it makes trialling new varieties very expensive and makes me more determined to try and use up the contemts of the older seed packets I still have in stock.. I suppose all these prices have to subsidise the cost of sll catalogues they bombard us witn.
