I didn't really want to go through that puppy-period, I did help to raise three daughters and yes it is just like having a baby though what a lot of owners don't realise that this baby has entirely different thought-processes. Nor did I want to give a home to a rescued dog that needed one because of the possible need for something I wouldn't be able to offer.

As a result I decided to not have another dog, whilst my life is fairly full and I'm not lonely living as a bachelor five days a week I do miss wondering if a row of carrots have been dig up and eaten or my bush beans stripped or the radishes have disappeared.

It is still strange to come home after a short short shopping trip to open the door to just a home, no doggy greeting and checking what is inside the bags. That used to irritate me but I miss it.

I'll be sure to keep you updated with photos, oh-yes, Ron, Flakey is right.

Our little Beti kept us awake most of the first night which is classic for a new puppy, second night which was last night was better though she had me up at 5.30.

She is a little beaut! Soulful, knowing eyes! Not too many lie ins for you for a bit & I wouldn't even think of an afternoon cat nap - well not without steel capped boots!

Is it my imagination or a trick of the light or is it a good job you didn't call her Snowflake? No less endearing though.

I love the name of Betti with an i but it is whatever name you think works with you and for her.

There's a lady over the allotment, whose Son's dog is called Toad.

Richard, beware of Betti's innocent eyes, as i have been caught a few times by ladies with that innocent look....

Geoff. Her Kennel name is, Pegilicious Snow in June and started as Snowflake prior to her registration. The breeder called her Snow because of the splash of white.

Her name is Beti with one T. This is apparently the Welsh Spelling and us wanting to be different together with us living in Wales.

She already let us sleep from 11 until 6 this morning and if we do our job of watching her signs she does let us know she wants a poo,or a pee. Yes we have accidents though few in comparison to toilet-outside after we read the signs.

I have to show you her Petzz-Pod and home made containment area, I'll produce a photo later in the day.

I just mopped a pee up in the kitchen but it was my fault, I missed her signs because I was chaffing about with my iPad instead of keeping an eye on her. Her signs for wanting a poo are classic and hard to miss if you are looking, signs for a pee are less obvious and things happen very fast with a puppy when they want "to-go".

She already pulled up a Cosmos when I wasn't looking, same again though. My fault. She is quite happy fighting cardboard boxes and her various kennel-mate substitutes but it you take your eye off her for a micro-second she'll find something else to fight with or amuse herself.

Yes OH, very soulful eyes, look at the photo of her mother Peggy. It is a Cocker Spaniel look.

Yes, we thought the white splodget on her nose was growing out and to be honest because it wasn't symmetrical I hoped it would go. The chest flash Is quite distinct and appealing. We aren't going to breed so character is more important. In fact the Kennel Club have a system now where the puppies cannot be registered from a pure bred dog if the breeder arranges it. This is to stop puppy-farmers getting hold of pure bred animals to farm them.

We once visited a breeder who was hiding the fact they were farming dogs though they weren't doing a very good job of hiding it. We saw worn-out bitches and puppies in stinking cages, I dread to think about the problems you could buy.

Beti was well socialised before we picked her up, the lady breeder had three daughters together with the encumbent boyfriends and lots of coming and going though because she had two other dogs and Peggy the mother I think Beti will be extra clingy with us now she lost her play pals.

We're taking turns to catch up on lost sleep and dealing with the daily routines because whilst Beti is awake she is playing, chewing and fighting anything. She has just woken after a short nap so I grabbed the opportunity to get some breakfast, it'll be all-go for anther hour then she'll fall asleep again so I can shower.

This is the Pod I referred to, sort of like an Eglu. As you can see she has taken to it as her place. It's a sort of cave for a dog, can be used outside because it is twin-walled, you can keep chickens in them with other assesories.

The containment area IS NOT used as a prison, sometimes I need a pee at the most inconvenient times.

Morning Richard, i take it from the well built, sturdy construction of the containment area, that it's a bit of your handy work?

Yes OH, it's a bit on the rough side as an example of my handi-work though it does the job. I built it for when Molly was a pup. The top surround stops the little rascal from climbing out though she is already doing pull-ups and trying her best.

Hardly any time for the garden at the moment though I'm just keeping the grass under control, I have a fabric puppy pen that I erect outside, if Beti can see me she settles more quickly. Puppies don't cope well with separation.
