On the meaning of moor, I also live in an area where it's name is two words with a -Y- in the middle. I think the Welsh for moor is Rhos but it isn't a moor in the way people understand the meaning. Our Rhos is also know as the "Collects" on some ancient maps because water always sits in the bottom of the valley.
The complete name is Rhos-Y-Caerau which has some connection with an ancient burial mound of an Irish king or noble. Because we have so many English and Irish incomers we also have mix of opinions about the history. I think there was raping-pillaging going on but it wasn't the Vikings, this time it was probably the Irish. For example, we have Welsh speaking Murphys.
