We've just had a nice little dash of rain - very welcome even though it won't make a great deal of difference to the plants it cooled me off standing outside in it,

Still no rain here, so at the latest count we have had just over an inch since the end of June (which was also dry). And we never had a large amount of rain in winter.
This morning I planted our spring cabbage for next year - they were growing in roottrainers and I just couldn't leave them in there any longer, so I dug a biggish hole for each plant, filled it with water, planted the seedlings in the mud and then puddled them in! So I hope they will survive in spite of the 29C we had today. No rain forecast.
Our potatoes Kestrel have also just dried up and disappeared and Sarpo Mira isn't looking too happy. Cara are doing fine.
Two success stories:
(1) shallots Jermor (planted 5 October last year) have done really well with five or six well grown shallots from each bulb
(2) dwarf beans Primavera and climbing beans Cobra are starting to crop well and earlier than usual

Don't worry, I'm having the family over for a BBQ on Sunday, heavens are bound to open!
We had a little smattering this afternoon and the paving just sucked it up and it was gone in 5 minutes.

Just had a very heavy shower of rain, so popped in for a cup of tea and a quick look on the forum.... i do seem to have been on here very little over the last few weeks, only due to being so very, very busy with work...hopefully things will soon quieten down a little soon.

it keeps trying to rain today, there have been lots of heavy black clouds - after the torrential storm we had last Friday. apparently 3 miles down the road, it is ankle deep ????

oh, and we picked 15 more cucumbers last week. I am keeping a tally on my calender! over 25 so far since the beginning of July.

No rain here.
Picked the Opal plums and although it only produced 3 lb of fruit they are delicious. Much nicer flavour than Victoria. I didn't think any had set it was such bad weather when it was flowering so I was very pleased to find some.
Got a glut of cucumbers, courgettes and mangetout peas this week.
Making some white currant wine which is fermenting nicely with the warm weather. It should be ready to put in the demi john tomorrow.
Blackbirds are being a nuisance eating all the berries. I caught one inside the net I had put over the blueberry in a pot, and another young one seems to think I am its friend and follows me round the garden. It walked into the greenhouse after me yesterday about 2 ft behind me. I'm wondering if it is the one I rescued from the strawberry net a few weeks ago when it was a tiny fledgling.

Woken by thunderstorm at 04:30, rained hard, encountered more rain on way to work, including a torrential shower a mile or two across which had caused some big pools on my route.

We had about one inch of rain overnight then more hot sunshine today

Still no rain. The dwarf and climbing French beans are certainly benefiting from this warm and dry weather because we have to pick them almost every day. Runner beans are just starting to yield.

I know I have been grousing about the lack of rain here - well, it's now confirmed. Having done my totting up last night, I see that we have had 60mm in June and 62mm in July, a total of 122mm, about 4 and three quarter inches in two months!

The forecast for today was heavy rain, but it's just been P****ing a bit (lots of rain west of us, enough to cause floods on roads!) and now it's stopped again. Somebody up there doesn't like me . . . . . .

Rain has stopped us playing at the plot again very heavy today

No rain for us, although it was forecast. It is quite blowy however, and there have been lots of heavy dark clouds rolling over.

I was so looking forward to the rain that was forecast. It said heavy showers overnight, what a disappointment when I opened the curtains this morning. Then it changed to heavy showers during the morning - nought!

Never mind logging the watering cans will be good for the bingo wings!

PS: My phone shows rain Tues, Wed & Thurs - what's the bet the GPS thingies is not working & it actually thinks I'm at the Games! Speaking of which I wouldn't t mind being there.

I swopped and linked a couple of new water butts at the big house Friday, so with the very heavy shower we had and large area of roof the water comes off of, i went along to do the bins with great exciment to see how much water we had collected. I was met by the owner with a big smile on his face, saying, "how much water do you think we have got", after a few guesses, he put me out of my misery by announcing, "none, you hadn't turned the tap to off", bet i won't hear the last of that one for a while.

You have to smile....
