We have just had an horrendous storm for the last hour thunder, lightening the full works hailstones big enough to destroy all the netting over my raised beds, I think I may get in the car and go check my plot out , am I glad I closed the door on the pollytunnel it was that warm and muggy today I was tempted to leave it open

Strange but wonderful to see.

I built an open fronted tractor shed earlier in the year, and within a couple of weeks a Wren had built a wonderful moss nest. But the Wren didn't use it, what seemed a real shame. Then after about a week there was more nesting material being placed on top of the Wrens nest. This turned out to be a Robin, and they hatched five youngsters out that fletched a few weeks ago.
Now to my amazement, when i went into the shed today, two birds flew out. A Robin and a Wren, it is now a double nest, Wren in the bottom, Robin in the top and both have eggs in them.

I'm not sure if they will rear them sucessfully, once they start feeding, but i do hope so.

That's lovely, OH. I wonder whether the birds might become confused and stuff the caterpillars into the wrong gaping beaks!?

And Robo, I hope you found your allotment without damage when you checked.

That's good news, Robo.

The wrens nest is a complete ball with a hole in the middle, so hopefully the baby wrens will keep their heads inside. I will keep you posted.

On a slightly different note. I notice Charlie Dimmock is doing an advert on the telly. Times moved on. I notice she now wears a bra. Ah well. It come to us all, one way or another. :( :( :(

Just been shelling a bucketful of peas, and there are a few maggots in them already. Very early and a little annoying, but these things happen. :)

Our peas are just a bit off being picked, but we have dug the first potatoes (Rocket) and they had lots of slug damage already! So I have now bought some Nemaslug and watered it all into the soil around the maincrop and late potatoes, hoping to avert any more problems.

It seems a strange year here: not many butterflies yet, but masses of bumblebees of all descriptions and ladybirds and their larvae.

The Wren seems to have abandoned her nest of eggs, maybe it's better happening at this stage rather when they had hatched, if it was going to happen, that is.
