I've just been clearing the peas that have finished, greenshaft and Robinson a tall one, and noticed that the Radeo are still growing and producing new pods. I've tried to look up the variety but it looks like our forum is the only source. I got mine, I think from Johnboy, and reading old posts it seems originally from Clive. So thank you Johnboy and Clive. I've been saving the seeds every year since you sent me them as it is a large, but sweet and very productive variety.

Also on the subject of peas have you noticed that there has been much less damage from pea moth this year?

Clive, can you tell us where the variety came from and how it got its name please if you know?

Firstly, apologies for my absence from writing these days...work and everyday life seems to preclude other than a quick watch of the forum.
The variety of pea that we know as Radeo was said to originate from Well Hall near Alford, Lincolnshire. It has been perpetuated by gardeners in the Alford area over many many years and came to me initially at my work location in the early 1990s from the MD of a local building company from Alford who always grew some. I have tried to grow and save seed of it to likewise perpetuate it both at work and at home ever since.
I have no idea of the naming of the variety or whether it is just a colloquial name or corruption of another. I had it as Radio at first but always felt this to be a too modern term but was subsequently told that it was Radeo. Does make you wonder if there is a link to Telephone....
