I use Freesat so can easily watch regional variations. This thread reminded me about Beechgrove so I watched it last night. Good solid practical programme that got through twice as much in ½ hour as GW does. Perhaps a little basic but the view of their beds and covered areas suggest some good stuff to come when the Aberdeen climate warms up a bit. I've put it on series record so I don't forget it, don't usually bother with TV before 8:00 pm.

Bit late to inform you all. But BEECHGROVE GARDEN is on BBC2 this morning 0930.

Geoff Hamilton was my favourite too. He was a trained gardener who knew what he was doing. MD is a jeweller turned presenter who objected to a grower living near him putting up tunnels for his strawberries after he'd moved to the area, put me right off him. Haven't watched GW for years as it became so unlike the gardening that most of us do. Can't stand Rosemary & Thyme (telly prog that is!) for the same reason. I'll have to have a look next week to see if GW's got any better...

We love it for the simple reason that it is easy watching on a Sunday afternoon, even if it is a completely unrealistic representation of gardens and gardeners

But then that's the whole point of programs like this. It's gentle, family entertainment and not a true to life depiction of the real world

Ooo now here's a thought, hows about kicking MD into touch and have Felicity and Pam present GW

Hi VPM,
I am sure that Rosemary and Thyme would fit the programme beautifully.

I am sure they can read an autocue the same if not better than Monty Don!
