My original question Shallot man was how can I disable the lock caps? I have a new computer which I love but the key board is so small I keep hitting it and it is most annoying to type sev eral lines befgore I realise. Havig seen most of the replies I have now decided it is too much trouble and will buy a new keyboard with larger keys and a wrist rest. The Microsfot 500.

Catherine I believe has been helpful to some of the others with shorrt cuts.

Hope this all makes snse.

When I was at typing school, we were taught to look at what we were typing, not at the keys. That way, we can see immediately if the train has started to leave the tracks.
Allotment, but little achieved.

I once worked at a Police Station typing police reports, using the audio machines and really loved the work. You never looked at the keyboard it really was touch typing. You had to type exactly what was being said, learning each person in the room and typing every single word, (including swear words :) I got lost in the reports on what people were up to. Unfortunately it was only temporary work. I would have loved a permanent job. But it made me a better touch typist. And it taught me all the short cuts on the key board. :)

How times change. I learned to type with a bridge over the keyboard that my hands went underneath and a chart of the keyboard on top for my fingers to follow. No cheating in those days. However the one thing I couldn't do without now is the spell check.

Nothing to do with the keyboard, but on Sunday our email account suddenly refused to accept our password - nothing would help. So I rang BT, our service provider, and a very helpful, patient and knowledgeable chap from India sorted it all out within about 30 minutes. As I work on an ageing Apple, local computer "experts" (other than very expensive Apple specialists) can't usually assist.

So, a big recommendation for BT!

Hi Monika,
Just a thought re your computer problem and expensive experts. In Sussex we've got a group called SMUG (Susses Mac Users Group) which has a website on which one can post pleas for advice. One of the experts on it calls himself Sam MacAmbulance and he's is super at sorting out people's problems, at no charge.
You've got such a site in Yorkshire - try www.ymug.org
Best of luck

You can also get free fixes and troubleshooting at any Apple Store. They'll sort out any hardware if you take it in to them. You have to pay for spares, mind, but that's only right and proper.

JohnN, that's a brilliant suggestion. I have had a quick look a the website and shall certainly join up. We have no friends or relations who use a Mac and the nearest Apple store used to be in Leeds though I believe that has closed down.

Quite often I have simple Mac questions and can't find any answer.
