Dear Beryl,
this looks like capsid (shield bug) damage to me. There are quite a lot of them about this year. These apples will not keep for very long so use them as soon as possible.

All my apples are safely stowed in the freezer now or in chutney.

I did notice Peters apples in general chatter, had a couple of marks that looked much the same.
I think it is a pest of some sort....

In my personal point of view marks sprayed on your apple due to bad weather. I have to say that this problem is not only apples but this problem creates on all fruits by bad weather this year.

Thanks Willkiamraed. All either eaten or safely in the freezer now but yes I think maybe you are right. There was nothing wrong with the flesh inside. I didn't trying storing them this year though just in case..
