I respect yours and JW's dedication to the 'cause', but it is not going to change the facts of life. There are many ways of producing food - there has to be, as conditions are so different in different parts of the world. Permaculture has a place, but as Alan has said and I endorse

Hunger exists in vast areas of the world now and is getting worse. I simply cannot believe that no-dig/permaculture/organic practices have any hope of alleviating the situation. If you can offer evidence to the contrary I should be glad to change my views.

Pretty Youtube videos are very nice, but hardly facts.

I think this video shows the research and theory behind reasons for no or low till and no chemicals quite simply if you can bear to watch another video Alan. It is applicable to farms as well as gardens.

Colin, she is a world renowned and respected soil researcher, she deals in facts, if you want the dry facts they are available on line, I did post them once before and you guys found it difficult to understand, so this time I thought you might find the pretty video easier to digest and more acceptable.
I am not saying you guys should change your beliefs, indeed you are entitled to believe what you want, However things and ideas do change if we keep an open mind and look at the facts and research available, my ideas have certainly not remained the same as they were years ago.
We have had intensive farming for quite a long time now if it was going to change poverty then it would have done so by now. There are many examples where permaculture and bio mimicry technology is making a difference to ares of poverty, especially those with impoverished and depleted soils.

We must have posted at the same time, thank you Geoff an important post, as can be seen with global warming we can't rely on imports, we have destroyed many of the worlds forests and trees which help to regulate climate with these catastrophic effects. The more trees and eco systems we can plant the better! We did it in the war and managed to feed ourselves, but population is much bigger now - it will take a big effort from us all.

Alan Bloom of Blooms of Bressingham spent part of the Second World War ripping up land that it had been too expensive to bring into cultivation due to being wooded or marsh land. It was then farmed conventionally using National Growmore artificial fertiliser on mono-culture.

Dig for victory allotments were put in on parkland and sports / recreational land and largely followed the practices you'll find in any elderly gardening book, double-digging, atrociously poisonous chemicals and all.

How many times have you been to an agricultural show and witnessed the purveyor of "The Wonder Polish." You, in the crowd, think of all the applications you have for it at home. You buy a tin of polish and within twenty minutes of getting home you try the said "Polish" and to you amazement it reacts nothing like it did when it was demonstrated.
The power of demonstration sells and in this instance it is selling a controversial method of growing.
