Could you provide the evidence for your statement about rootgrow please Alan? Good soil might have mycorrhizal fungi in it anyway!

I always say that light levels are key to success with tomatoes. Is your greenhouse in a sunny enough spot, Myrrk? And the place where you grow them outside: is that sunny too? I don't ever shade my greenhouse, even though many others do. To keep temperatures down, I ventilate as much as possible and damp down. Tomato leaves don't scorch if they're kept well watered and water is kept off the leaves. Keeping the leaves dry also prevents blight.
When feeding, be sure not to apply too much nitrogen as this encourages leaf growth often at the expense of fruit.

Our garden is south facing and they are currently in the conservatory with lots of light. I have the pots in a tray and water into the tray so they have to suck the water up and the roots grow down.
So far this year they are looking ok. Fingers crossed.
