Thank you Alan. I really didn't think so many/any people would take it so seriously.

Unless I am very much mistaken, Colin's post was very much tongue in cheek, with reference to this thread

lol, I did think this was a rather odd topic for a gardening forum.

I'm with nature's babe. I used to work in a mixed practice and became a vegetarian after seeing how many drugs were given to our food animals (welfare was also an issue).

Antibiotics are also given prophylactically after routine surgeries in lieu of good aseptic technique. The last practice I worked in was so proud of its operating theatre cleanliness and animal prep. that any operation that didn't involve implants and was less than 30mins long did not get antibiotics post-operatively. Not sure how it works in hospitals given I've (touch wood) not had to sample their operating theatres.

Common sense is the key, use them when needed and don't use them when not absolutely necessary.

From what I gather doctors have now been made to prescribe antibiotics
for only specific treatments and not to use them as a 'cure-all' medicine.
The practice for stockbreeders to be able to buy foodstuffs with antibiotics included should be prohibited. What it really means is that the drugs have got into the wrong hands.
When it comes to plant life and our foodstuffs integrated pest managements systems have evolved and are forever being improved so that our food is as safe as it possibly can be.
I appreciate that there are those who will not agree with me but there is a huge difference between growing your own produce organically on a home scale and growing on a large organic commercial scale because even there chemicals are widely used.
JB.

Absolutely and something as to what I was trying to get across in my own weird way.
