Morning Geoff, i hate to say this really, but it is absolutely gorgeous here...

I am taken full advantage of a day off, and forging on with the last of the digging, nearly there, just having a tea break.

Morning all, It is a nice sunny day here too, quite mild and I'm just going to widen the path next to the raspberries and do a bit of weeding.

The next rainy day will see me sowing a few things for the propagator. I think the light levels are strong enough to get stuff growing now inside, and I've got the lamp over them to stop them getting leggy if needed.

There is a chance - our personal blue blob is getting smaller.

I hope the sun came out for you Geoff. It has been lovely here nearly all day and I've seen dozens of ladybirds sunbathing on fences and twigs. There was also a Red Admiral butterfly on the crocus and the frogs are moving about in the mud at the bottom of the pond.

It will probably be snowing next week!

We have been house "gardening" again this morning...furniture moving.!..but also I did change the flower ring in the house. This is I believe an old globe stand that has had a base added and copper pan to be a plant display ring.
It has been running on various succulents for a while but today I put in some Hyacinths, Primula Malacoides, Early Bride Narcissus and a Cineraria.

We then escaped outside and forked around the soft fruit area...after which Sam got out the big mower and put some refreshing stripes into the kitchen garden lawns. I got out my old Hayter Harrier and trimmed a bit of the cottage lawn.

I decided to sow a row of Broad Beans..... This evening Committee Kittee came to inspect and I was able to have a word with her about stepping up her mouse patrol of the area.

The ground was in amazing condition after the -15 frost the other day.....and I took a chance and put in 2 rows of Vales Emerald Potatoes in a very sheltered corner. These were own saved from a row that I have to admit that we didn't get lifted until about a month ago. They were as clean as anything and I put them to chit...lovely 1/4" chits on them by today.
Back 20 years ago when I attended for interview a couple of rows of Potatoes had just been put in in the very same location....so we'll have to see how they go....
Old H' did say it was going to be an early Spring I believe..

Snowdrops and Aconites are looking at their best this week. ...not sure how they will do with the suggested 16 degrees on Thursday.

Morning Clive, i thought your yesterday posting seemed a very happy one, then i got to the part where you had had lawnmowers out, and all was answered...

They won't be out here - we are in the pink today (or maybe the red).

If it weren't for the poytunnel I reckon I might consider giving up gardening this year

Wet, wet, wet.

I got the Shallots set this morning straight away on arriving at work....and then after 9am I set out with our Wednesday volunteers to tidy the triangle shrubbery frontage...trim down of some sub shrubs and old herbaceous...whilst delicately stepping between the Snowdrops.. A new Mahonia and Cornus midwinter fire were added..the grass striped...just as the rains came..and a bit more than the advertised drizzle too....

So we retreated indoors to re pot a few things.

I did go and sweep the tennis court later.....but that was inside in the dry. a little offer of help to a frustrated marquee erector who was battling to keep his floor clear of leaves that were blowing in in the mighty winds....not sure that sweeping marquee floors come under my dept...but then perhaps the leaves were "mine".....

Now what is it with leaves, you sweep them into a tidy heap and they blow away again, they really do seem to have a mind of their own.
