Hi OH,
This area had the same dire warning! What we actually got was about 20 minutes light drizzle. I do hope that this doesn't mean that somebody else got absolutely washed out.

We got well over two inches of rain, it has stopped now, but it's still running like a stream down our lane.

After two gorgeous days (we moved 30 huge wheelbarrow loads of manure onto our plot!), it rained about 8mm today, but our garden pond, Nature Reserve pond and certainly the reservoir supplying the Leeds-Liverpool Canal are nowhere near the level they should be at this time of the year.

We went to see the closed stretch of canal over the weekend and it's really sad to see it empty, like a ruin of a well loved house. The central stretch, where it crosses the Pennines, has been closed, drained and blocked off with stop planks because of the lack of water in the supply reservoirs and British Waterways are now carrying out the maintenance work which would normally have happened in winter. All fish were caught and transported to a lower stretch of canal.

So we could still do with a lot more rain!

25mm here.....bringing on a tidy of the potting and mower sheds.....and progress on cleaning up gravel base prior to fitting of staging to back greenhouse...out mowing and lawn edging after lunch...stopped to get Sweetcorn and Runner Beans for our good lady boss...after which the rains returned...collected abandoned mowers and went indoors again to letter up open day sign.....

It seems a little on the cool side tonight...

Have to say what a beautiful day it has been in the grim North. Had Onions and Shallots out in the sun drying, dug up the Maris Pipers and took the dog for a long walk along the river. Just wish we hadn't got the unseasonable midges.

A months rain in 2 days here, first drought while crops were growing and deluge now we need the sun to ripen things, oh well they said it might cheer up by the bank holiday weekend. Glad I have raised beds !

It has been raining here for the last 16 hours and dread to think how many mm we will have had.
We have a local flood warning out! It generally takes two days for the rain water from up river to reach us so probably in about 36 hours time I will again be living on an island.

Been raining very heavily all night here, still too dark to see just how much we have had.

17.5 mm rain last night and today....that figure does not seem high enough relative to how it was coming down in the night.....and today it has been sweeping across with clouds to floor all day....

Sweetcorn.....Incredible-y flattened by West wind yesterday has been whipped over the other way by todays lashing rain and blow from the East.

Not such a productive day somehow.....but another greenhouse staging section got assembled and the wall behind the staging was prepared and whitewashed....

Not such a great visitor day today....a few hardy souls...welly boots and sou'westers..........

8 mm on 17th; then 3mm, 10mm at night, 25 mm at night [20 and 21 Aug, I think], 6 and 40mm over Wednesday afternoon and night [27-28]. I do fear for my tomatoes, which I suppose will have all split open, but I am hopeful that my late spuds might still grow bigger and the sweetcorn may swell. I don't think the squashes and cucurbits will suffer, and the brassicas for winter will be absolutely loving it.

Another lovely day today -- not quite as sunny as yesterday but certainly dry and very pleasant. Today was our shopping day so no time for gardening, but tomorrow my OH will scythe the Nature Reserve meadow and, hopefully, it will stay dry for a few days to make hay.

I shall take out the last broad bean plants on the allotments (I had hoped to have some pods for our Village show next week, but they have chocolate spot and are ok for eating but not for showing). Then I will sow the last green manure on the bed.

It has now been raining for forty hours with hardly a break.
And it's coming down very heavy at the present.

We certainly have seen a lot of weather divides in the country this year.

Dear Alan, i have to say, i'm very pleased for you.

I'm sorry, OH. I really should have sympathised with you for all your rain. Goodness knows we've had enough ourselves this "summer", though never in large amounts.
