Friends and neighbours should be OK for a few apple pies this winter, just finished picking 50 kgs of Bramleys. Might be one or two more when I go back in daylight but rain in the forecast so wanted to clear them.

Noticed today one of our few butternut squashes ripening on the window sill had become half rotten at the base so it's had to be tossed. Normally would have expected rotting to start at stem end so don,t know what has triggered thst - possibly a tiny insect burying itself inside the skin before it had properly hardened off?

Maybe where the flower sat hadn't healed over properly?
