I always vowed that I would never be like my mum, not knowing how to work things. I've now found that I have problems working the dvd player, could host my own Grumpy Old Fart Show, i've started writing letters of complaint, and have developed several other worring traits.

However, I intend getting my tattoo for my big birthday, possible another piercing and becoming as rebellious as possible.

Big Andrew is 50 in July and i'm in the process of getting him and "Over 50 Survival Kit" This will include various catalogues (Chums Trousers, orthopeadic shoes etc) over 50 insurance plans, a very large box of Jelly Babies (his favourite sweetie) incontinence pads and much more. I'm going to have members of his team present it to him on his special day

Dear Lizzie, i was just wondering what you class as your BIG Birthday.

Bet big Andrew can't wait for his 50th, he will know there will be something going to happen.

Is there any room left, for more rebelliousness.

The plot is ready for the off...so to speak

The weather has been fantastic here too so I've spent the afternoon mucking out the chicken run liming the soil and spreading new hemp bedding for them to dig and dust bathe in. As usual all 4 of them had to help by standing on the shovel and looking for worms where I'd just dug.

Dear Rooster, i don't know if your chickens are the same as the ones i used to have, many years ago, but there always seems to be one or two of them that have a lot more character then the others, a bit like us lot i suppose.

You are so right OH. As I've previously mentioned they are ex-battery hens, one of them must have come from somewhere quite horrendous because she was almos bald. She is the cheekiest one as she has had to fight all her life. The 2 who were in the best condition are the boldest and most happy to be handled (Maud and Fattima) Marrianna is very much a loner.

Coming back to the weather: yesterday we had the first day without rain since 1 January! Today was dry, too, unfortunately unlike most of the country, it appears, we only had a very short glimpse of the sun in the afternoon and with it blew a rather vicious westerly wind which made it quite unpleasant. I braved the elements, however, and spread last year's leafmould on a bed with cyclamen hederifolium, cyclamen coum, winter aconite (just starting to flower), primroses and sweet violets.

If it's fine tomorrow, I will dig in some of the manure on the salad bed.

Dear Monika, i bet the bed looked very pleasing after you had spread the leafmould, it really does set the plants off don't you think.

Just got the new K.G Magazine, and the front cover is very pleasing to the eye too.
