Been raining most of the night and forecast in till evening everywhere is under water but not flooded like they are 30 miles north of us they are in for a bad day

Bleaurgh!

Soggy, greasy ground, drizzling miserable weather.

Replaced broken ceramic back piece in wood burner, thoroughly cleaned said stove and fireplace, lugged logs in. No outdoor jobs that are really compatible with the weather. Reduced to baking flapjack and holding off on lighting the fire, having the oven on helps.

After all this gloomy weather, we had a nice little cheer me up in Milton Bryan, this weekend. The Church folk held a Christmas tree festival and very nice it was too. I was very pleased for all involved, as it was very well attended, especially from the village.

The kids faces when they came into the Church, was something money can't buy, truly magical.

I'm desperate to get all my pruning done so can cover up the branches for burning & keep them dry until the early Spring burn off. Today I got the roses all pruned so now only have 1 bed of raspberries & maybe a few more fruit tree prunings when I re-visit to check my earlier handiwork. The hedge row at the back badly needs a trim but I can't reach it all without a ladder so that will have to wait for Mr Westi to be available to do that. Still got summer lettuces & cabbages, rocket, mixed leaf, Chinese lettuce, kohl rabi & pak choi growing but they are looking a little weather (& critter) beaten.

Best thing today going down the back road to my lottie a buzzard was sitting on the water trough, got within about 6 foot, then when he flew off went right past me! Brilliant!

Finally managed a bit of clearing up the last couple of days, though still pretty soggy. Cleared the Runner Beans, do the new varieties make big 'tubers' for everybody? Decided they weren't going to rot down in the ground so dug them out and chopped them into the compost, the Firestorm were particularly big like small Dahlias.

I was impressed with Firestorm, good taste, not bad for the show bench either.
Like you I found the root systems to be dahlia like, I guess that's indicative of the size of actual bean pods we harvested from them.

Emergo was similar size root system, slightly bigger bean pods and definitely straighter.

I also dug the roots out of all bean types and put them on compost

Really too wet and dismal to do any garden work. All the haulms from my climbing beans apart from the roots have been dig into next year's trench. I'm hoping all this moisture will help rot them down. Too soggy to spread out the compost pile recently dug out of the cage. Remaining leeks have now pretty much collapsed and lie mushily on the ground. On days like this I am happy to leave nature to itself !

Dear Primrose, the weather continues to be rather bleak here to. It's a real struggle in the gardens that i work at, to get the jobs completed, without making a mess. I still have a couple of large lawns that really could do with a cut, but they are so soft and waterlogged, that i'm just having to keep off them.

Just sitting here in front of a roaring log fire and very nice it is too...the only problem is, i keep nodding off.

If you are going to nod off just make sure you don't inadvertently have a hot log off as well

I've changed my signature. Doesn't mean much at the moment as the weather station is sat on the coffee table! Hope to get it set up outside tomorrow and one day add a webcam.

Glad I'm not the only one looking at a home weather station Mine is going to have to wait a few years while I save up though
