Hello Everyone,

Thought would say hello first.
Now, that's done ;-) I have a question...anyone here has any tips on how to grow sweet potatoes? Is it a good idea to start them at home (when, how, what variety) or would it be better to order some slips? What variety am I likely to succeed with, living in the North-West ...could find some space in one of the greenhouses if need be...

Any hints and tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome. You say you are in the NorthWest but if you go to User Control Panel and Profile you can fill in some details to remind us and help us give you relevant advice.
I don't know anything about Sweet Potatoes but if you put them in the Search you come up with this fairly recent thread that might help.

Just need a bit of time to read through the topics and see if I can find what I'm looking for.

At the moment I'd like to focus on "them sweet spuds". I love garden challenges and after reading the thread Geoff gave me yesterday, I'm pretty much sure I'm gonna start them off from a shop bought tuber. I have a square raised bed with a lot of manure dug in the last autumn and hopefully it will get warm enough for the demanding sweet potato.

I was thinking the shop bought slips would be somehow more suitable for our climate and soil conditions but as I read there's no difference so I might as well buy a few in Unicorn and give it a go.
