Assuming that you are retricting us to the species not the variety.
Potatoes.
The number of ways you can cook them, they store so are available all year round, they are possibly the most versatile and filling vegetable you can grow.
Apples.
The incredible variety of types, cookers, eaters, dual purpose, crab.

Couldn't do 95% of my cooking (mostly italian) without good toms...
Onions:
Ditto...
... and before you start, I'm counting tomatoes as my fruit!

When I was in the situation where I didn't have an allotment and the garden wasn't suitable for much veg growing the answer was simple - runner beans. Doesn't look out of place, productive over a long period, don't take up too much space and you can't buy them fresh.
Got to be leeks for me - a couple of leeks and they can be turned into a meal. As for fruit - anything, we eat it all but plums and pears particular favourites.

Probably blueberries. Delicious and exceptionally good for you!
Sweetcorn - there is nothing better than home grown, picked and cooked immediately. Totally different vegtable to anything you have bought before in the shops.
Ditto strawberries, especially picked on a warm summer day and scoffed for tea with cream.
mmmmm - making me feel hungry. Roll on summer.
