I have a bin of compost that has been left for around 3years, I looked at it yesterday and it has gone very very mulchy and quite wet, before I use it should I add anything to it? It smells very strong. Any ideas please.
Thanks J

It sounds as though it has got out of balance a little. Compost should have a sweet smell or no smell at all.

This is normally conteracted by adding air and some bulk to the mix. Fork it over and add in some shredded paper or other bulky material to help dry it out a bit.
