Our sheds were broken into again Thur. night thats 3 times since Christmas, nothing taken from the 4 plots around me but someone further up had things taken, the police were still on the site interviewing them when I was leaving today. The police couldn't come yesterday too busy as they had a murder to investigate. One consolation they didn't damage any of the seedlings or break any glass in the greenhouses.
I don't bother to put any locks on now as they always force them to get in,neither do I keep any of my late husbands good tools down there.

Dear Bren, so sorry to hear of the latest troubles on your site, but pleased to read that the greenhouses and seedlings were untouched.
I really do think that all our members that are suffering from these horrible crimes are so brave and also very strong to carry on.
You must not let these people win the day, however hard it gets.

Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Thank for the info glallotments. I will definitely look into it further, sounds like it would be a good idea to fit the alarm locks. Having just read a leaflet from our local police allotment watch scheme they are recommending them too.

Early days yet but they are keen. 2 lads caught recently were up before the magistrate last week, one got community service the other suspended sentence. It's a start though.

Beryl. Maybe you should invite the local plod to have an allotment.
I am really sorry to hear some of you are having such problems with theft and/or vandalism. It puts our few niggles about rabbits, mice and partridges into perspective and I really think I would give up in the face of such troubles!
No reason why Mr. Plod couldn't have an allotment but he would have to go on the waiting list like anyone else. At the moment I think Gosport has a figure in excess of a 400 waiting 41 at Elson and they are looking to find another site.

A bit more on the shed locks - I did ask my brother-in-law about these as he is in the security business and his comments were:-
'In principal, anything that scares off burglars is a deterrent.
However, after they set it off 1st time, they will probably check to see if anyone takes any notice. If not, back to square one and only the padlock will keep them out.
In this area, they have been known to keep setting off alarms until the owner thinks the equipment is faulty and then leaves it switched off.
Judging by the video, every chance strong wind and a loose door will set it off.'
Needs a bit more thought I think.
