We have some lovely yellow willow on our site and I was wondering about using it for structures for sweet peas but I hear they can root and don't know how to prevent it. Plus I don't have a design. Other than that ...

Dear Penny, willow is very prone to root from cuttings.
Maybe you could make a wigwam of canes, and then weave the yellow willow horzontally round the canes.
You will probably have to have a little practice, but i'm sure with a little patience it will look very pleasing.

I'm sure i read a post about this on here last year, I think someone suggested planting it upside down.

Dear Penny,
if you want the willow canes to go into the ground and not grow the best way is to dunk them in a bucket of boiling water. Leave until cold and then use. The depth of the bucket or container must be deeper than the planned depth you will put the canes into the ground.
