Killing time at our local nursery whilst the Memsahib was buying up most of left over Xmas stock . I was looking at the seed from a well known American Co: £2.99 for approx 40 cabbage seed. Who said Dick Turpin was dead. Why anyone with an allotment needs F1 seed is beyond me, who needs an identical row of cabbages, when you are only going to pick one at a time is beyond me. Well that's got that of my chest, I now feel a lot better. Wishing you all the best for this season. Grumpy old shallotman

Dear Shallot Man, glad you feel better for sharing that with us.
Will the Christmas bargains go in the loft next to last years ones.
I have to agree with you about the F1 seeds, theres a lot to be said for some of the older varities.

Boycott them Shallotman.
As I've said so many times in the past, shop with Seeds of Italy. £1.49 for 1,800 cabbage seeds.

No, I'm not on the payroll, just a huge fan of the quality, the quantity and the fantastic service they give.

Hi Chantal, I do boycott them, I have become a convert to WILKINSONS stores, seeds start at 40p, if you are early enough, buy two get the cheapest free. shallotman
better still go to seed swap forum, I dont want 1000's of seeds, so maybe some of you that have that many will do some swaps with me? When I only grow 9 tomatoes but want 3 different varieties, and 8 brussells sprouts plants but want early and late types, 6 wigwams with a different climbing bean on each and as many different pumkins i have space left over for (just one or two of each!)it gets very expensive.
im with shallotman, ive used wilkinsons for several years for the common run of the mill stuff. been known to go in several times when they are on the cheapest one free lark, well you have to get the three most expensive packs first then go back for some cheaper ones. there no point buying at £1.50 and getting free cabbage at 40 p. their bushes, tools, gloves etc are very reasonable aswell.

In the next week or so we'll be putting up a few thousand free seeds from our collection here at Kitchen Garden HQ.
Keep an eye on the Seed Swap forum for more news, and bear in mind this will operate as a Seed 'Swap' (Although we don't want seeds ourselves LOL)
We will just need an SAE and which seeds you'd like
More soon.....

Yes, it's interesting how comanies differ.
Like Chantal, I've found that the packs you get from Seeds of Italy (the Franchi range) usually have lots in them and this year mostly cost £1.59.
By contrast, I've found that some stuff comes in very small quantities. In a few cases, I guess it may be the variety I was after:
- Organic Catalogue: Ace Peppers (4 or 5 seed per pack)
- Tuckers: Sunbaby Tonatoes (12 seeds per pack)
I guess some of these could be "difficult" or F1 varieties, suppose its another reason to concentrate on traditional varieties.

Dear K.G Admin, may i just ask what has happened to your offer of free seeds.
I'm waiting to put my bulk order for seeds in from you.
only joking.
But it might be nice for others, now you have tempted them.
