I appreciate that this question is going into the realms of how long is a piece of string! but I have a gismo, in the shape of computer watering for when we are away from home, and wondering if we should set it to water each night, as we did last year, watering the tomatoes etc from drip valves for an hour a night, or should we leave it every two or three days for two or three hours a night.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi

I believe the thing with tomatoes is to keep them constantly moist, i.e. not letting them dry out and then flooding them. This avoids the dreaded blossom end rot.

Last year when my toms were growing strongly and carrying fruit I gave each plant a litre at the same time every evening and had no BER at all.

It does depend on the stage of growth, the temperature and how much your system delivers - but you should be looking for a fairly constant level of moist.

Hope this helps

Thanks David that sounds like good advice, I will stick to the daily watering.
