So what did everyone think about the coverage this year. Who the hell decided to put Lorraine Kelly on at lunchtime? Jeez, that was a bad decision.
I firmly believe that Lorraine Kelly, Anthea Turner, Ruby Wax and Vanessa Feltz need culling for giving being "fluffy" bad press. She knew absolutly bugger all about gardening so why she was presenting I don't know
The evening ones weren't too bad, although I did miss Diarmiud not presenting, probably the BBC wouldn't let him due to the Bunny incident a few years ago.
Diarmuids garden was great, loved the daisy effects with the box hedges. Also liked Chris Beardshaws, the Linnaeus Garden was beautiful and the one with shed set during war time. I loved that one. Davis Austins display in the floral paviliion was beautiful, but i'm a sucker for roses anyway.
These are my thoughts, what do other think?

At danger of seeming ill-informed, what bunny incident?
Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.

Are you sitting comfortably Peter, then i'll begin.
A couple of years ago Diarmuids show garden was next to Bunny Guiness and there was a disagreement over the height of a wall. Diarmuid was all for being reasonable, it was only 2 inches after all, did it really matter. Bunny wanted it taking down. Diarmuid said no it was only a few inches, it didn't spoil the outlook of either garden and he would be the only one to lose points. It was too big a job to do hours before judging began.
Anyway, there was a bit of a spat off screen and a little on screen, along the lines of "that bloody woman"
Alan Titchmarsh was commentating with Carol Klein. Alan would say things like "Here's Diarmuid, oh dear, he doesn't look a happy bunny today!" ans "Diarmuid, hop over here and tell the viewers what you have been up to"
Anyway, they haven't let Diarmuid near the BBC since and Bunny Guiness was a judge this year, but hasn't done her own garden for a few years now, whilst Diarmuid has carried on designing.
I've liked Diarmuid ever since

I think Diarmuid was cold shouldered for advertising rather than proving Bunny was ar.
Agree with what was good and also tried a few minutes of the non 8pm programmes and gave up.
What about the negatives? Send the Mars garden into space and use the one with the weird antenna to track it? Not a fan of Joe or Rachel but Carol was her usual excellent self (is it the Liverpool in her?) and passed on her genuine enthusiasm.

He could have been Geoff cos he did a bit of that too. I think he's too unpredictable for the BBC, which is all the more reason to have him on. Shake things up a bit.
I respect Carol Klein enormously, so enthusiastic and really knows her stuff. She's always a pleasure to listen too.
I don't like the modern, minamilistic type gardens with their integral water features. Not my thing at all. I thought some of the roof terrace ones were ok but, frankly, if you can afford to buy a place that has a roof terrace, why not buy a place with a garden? I don't really get it at all. There were far too many of these minamalist type gardens for me, although if they float your boat fair enough.
I liked the architectural spacey thing, purely for its innovation and its a bit of fun. I also really like the traditional gardens, where there wasn't any straight lines. I don't like formality in a garden.
For not liking formality, I did like the FOrtnum and Mason garden, the little follys inlaid with mirrors and shells were gorgeous.
I think the BBC need to cut the programmes down to half an hour cos they were just repeating themselves a lot.

I only watched the evening programmes and I really enjoyed them. I'm not a huge Rachel fan either, although I do like Jo, but I think the mixture of presenter styles worked well.
As for Diarmuid - he was banned for a year by the BBC because he promoted a particular brand of compost, which is why he wasn't presenting Chelsea last year.

To me, there was too much symbolism and not enough real gardening. Just to identify a few gardens I had a problem with: I'm afraid I just don't get the whole garden on Mars thing. Irrelevant and not inspiring for more earth-bound gardens. I consider it as art, not practical gardening. Maybe there should be a separate category for artistic interpretation of symbolic deep inner meaning, and leave the real gardening to other categories. Also, was I the only one who found the red boots and disembodied heads somewhat impractical as a garden design??? Again, surely Art not gardening. I have no problem with that so long as it's defined as such. However the Californian garden and the Hidcote garden really had ideas I could transfer to my own house. I'm not altogether keen on (and I don't think my neighbours would be impressed either) installing disembodied heads and boots in my garden, and spending shed loads of money to replicate a Mars-like rock and 6th gravity bench in my garden.
