Well, we watched the Lowry programme closely, and I don't class a shot of the town's signpost as being part of the programme. Lowry painted dozens of pictures of this area - more than enough for the local museum to put on an exhibition and none of them were shown :(
The writeup in the local press said that the 'Moor was to form a significant part of the programme so we must have blinked and missed it.
This might seem like a rant, and you're right, but we have already been slated in the list of towns never to visit (or something like that) because of something called chavs :!: :? and it would have been nice to have had the balance redressed a little.
Right, rant over, and if anyone can shed any light on 'chavs', would be grateful. Think it has something to do with burberry :?:

For those of us who don't know the area intimately, it was a wonderful programme. Loved it!

As for Chavs - ask the woman from Eastenders without a nasal septum. I think she knows the answer.

One definition doig the rounds is "Council House And Violent"

Think of what the certain sections of the daily press describe as "modern white underclass".

Chavs are in abundance outside my office as I look over the job centre plus. They can easily be identified by the fake designer clothes (usually Burberry) and expensive mobile phones. The female of the species has a crop top in all weathers and a muffin top hanging over her trousers; always smoking and usually pushing a buggy with one or more children. The male of the species stands around smoking and spitting. Neither seem capable of sringing together simple sentences without the use of profanity. Recognise them now?

As the for the Lowry programme, sorry, didn't see it. What does Lowry have to do with chavs?

The chavs were in a book published a couple of years ago about all the places in the country NOT to visit - with Cleator Moor suffering cos of all the chavs. I know we are classed as as being a HAZ (health action zone) but we are in a really pretty area - photos coming as soon as the sun starts shining!
