sorry moan/rant, just needed to share!
we have decided we need to move from our lovely thatched cottage due to lack of space
we love the village but prices here are hideous!
we went to see a nice thatch today only 1 mile away from here but some builders are after it too-sadly think they may well get it! it has an orchard and outbuildings, but needs serious renovation
our other option was a barn conversion we know will be up for sale this year-dh went to say to the owners we were keen and they have had it valued but we really cannot afford it-aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i really dont want to search over 100 houses again to find one we actually like!
we would love to stay here but the chances of getting planning permission from the national parks to build up is virtually nil-we can only go up as the graveyard is behind us! dh works from home so we really do need the space..
any ideas
ive spent hours on the net and visiting estate agents
our house was valued today and the price is good-but we could do with winning the lottery!
ps- i do realise im lucky to have a roof over my head but ive worked damned hard to get it
house buying/selling!

Hi Jopsy
Now, this is going to sound very strange so i'll give you fair warning.
If you can only expand upwards then how about a treehouse for dh to work in? I know this is an American link but it will give you an idea of what I mean http://www.treehouseworkshop.com/favorite.htm
Would that then free up space in the house for you and Lily? Do you outbuildings that you could use or are there any that you could rent/buy for dh use?
It seems a shame to leave such a lovely home. Hope you find a solution

Yeah, I suggested the very same thing to The Old Fart just the other day
I even offered him a lift or i'd call him a cab. In the end I called him something else
I do hope you get it sorted out though. A friend of mine has been looking for a place in Devon for 18 months. He's been to a few auctions but stopped bidding cos the prices were getting very silly. His favourite one he had to let go cos the guide price was £150K and bidding had got to £380k. I wouldn't mind but it didn't have a roof or several outside walls.
Still, that's life.

Dear Jopsy, sometimes in life you just have to be a little bit more patient than at other times, i'm sure the right place will turn up in time.
When you do find your new place, can you get one so the spare bedroom has an easterly aspect, i do like it when the sun comes streaming through the window in the morning.
Is Rolly fed up with hearing about moving yet.

Dear Jopsy i don't think you were moaning at all.
Jopsy one more option, have you thought about finding a building plot and getting a house built.
You can save up to thirty percent by doing this, and you get the design of house you want.
